Exorcism in the power of Christ

Luke 4:31-37

And Jesus went down to Capernaum –
a town in Galilee where He
taught the people on the Sabbath day,
and they were dazed by His teaching –
amazed by His Word
of power,
of authority.

And in the synagogue, a man
by an evil spirit
cried out with a terrible cry:
‘Oh, let us alone!
What have You to do with us?
We have nothing in common
with You, Jesus of Nazareth!
But we know Who You are –
the Holy One of God.’

Then Jesus commanded the spirit:
‘Be quiet! You are bound
to come out of him!’

And the demon threw the man down
to the floor but came out of him
without hurting him more!

Perplexed the people
turned to one another and asked:
‘What’s happening?
What’s happening?
What just happened here?
For with power and authority,
He commands hostile spirits,
and they come out and obey.’

After that, many say
word of Jesus traveled
quickly around the country.

The healing power of Jesus’ Name

Filled with the Holy Spirit, the Apostle Peter
told the elders and rulers of the people:

You’re wondering about the good
that came today
to someone who was sick,
and you’re asking how
this person was healed,

so I want you –
and all of God’s people –
to know,

this person stands
before you
in good health because

of the Name
of Jesus Christ,

Who, even though God’s own people
crucified Him,
has been raised by God
from death to life.
