Exorcism in the power of Christ

Luke 4:31-37

And Jesus went down to Capernaum –
a town in Galilee where He
taught the people on the Sabbath day,
and they were dazed by His teaching –
amazed by His Word
of power,
of authority.

And in the synagogue, a man
possessed
by an evil spirit
cried out with a terrible cry:
‘Oh, let us alone!
What have You to do with us?
We have nothing in common
with You, Jesus of Nazareth!
But we know Who You are –
the Holy One of God.’

Then Jesus commanded the spirit:
‘Be quiet! You are bound
to come out of him!’

And the demon threw the man down
to the floor but came out of him
without hurting him more!

Perplexed the people
turned to one another and asked:
‘What’s happening?
What’s happening?
What just happened here?
For with power and authority,
He commands hostile spirits,
and they come out and obey.’

After that, many say
word of Jesus traveled
quickly around the country.

Jesus Christ exorcizes evil

Mark 1:22-27

The teachings of Jesus
astonished people,
for He did not sound like
their teachers of the law
but One with authority.

Then, in came a man who had
an unclean spirit that cried out:
‘What have we to do with You,
Jesus of Nazareth? Did You
come to destroy us now?
I know Who You are –
the Holy One of God!’

But Jesus commanded,
‘Silence!
Come out of this man!’

Throwing the man down
with a shriek,
the cruel spirits left.

The people shook with awe
and asked each other:
‘What just happened here?
He commands evil spirits
to obey, and they do!’
